Abstract:
The article gives a brief overview of the main research and production centers of tactile mapping and the main cartographic works in this area. Almost for a two-century history of tactile maps, there are many questions on their creation and place in modern cartography. There remain many contradictions between the “classical” cartography and numerous developments on the tactile graphics. Tactile and typhlographic atlases, which are unique complex works of its kind, a description is given. In conclusion, the author returns to the question of the development of tactile and typhlocartography in Russia, as well as to the works of Cartography department of the Institute of Geography Russian Academy of Sciences in this direction.
