A.A. Mayorov was born on October 9, 1958 in the village of Akulovo, Odintsovo district, Moscow Region, Russia, in the family of employees.
After graduating from high school in 1975, entered the first course of the Moscow Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Surveying and Cartography (MIIGAiK) - now the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. After graduation from the MIIGAiK, on the recommendation of the Academic Council, was enrolled in full-time postgraduate studies at the University. In 1984 he graduated from the postgraduate course and protected his PhD. In 1991 he protected his doctoral thesis.
During his educational activity A.A. Mayorov held lectures and conducted practice and laboratory classes on the following courses: "Fundamentals of electrical engineering and electronics", "Automation of high-precision engineering geodetic measurements" for students of the MIIGAiK Geodesy Department, "Fundamentals of Information Theory", "Computer Science" - for students of the Optical Information systems and technologies Faculty, "Designing information systems" - for students of the of Applied Cosmonautics and Photogrammetry Faculty.
Since 1981, was a responsible performer and supervisor of works on research and developmental topics of special importance. They were carried out for strengthening the national defense and exploring space. In the course of carrying out the works, he attended the space centres of "Baikonur", "Plesetsk", objects in the city of Severodvinsk, settlement of Gadjievo, and others many times.
Since 2009, supervised a number of research projects carried out within the framework of the Federal Target Programs "Research and Workings in Priority Areas for the Development of the Russian Scientific and Technical Complex", "Science Theoretic and Pedagogic Personnel of Innovative Russia", Federal Target Program "GLONASS" and others.
A.A. Mayorov published more than 165 scientific and educational works on topics of scientific research and educational activities, prepared more than 150 graduate students, under the supervision of A.A. Mayorov 17 postgraduates successfully protected their Ph.Ds.
The sphere of scientific interests includes the matters of constructing information and measuring systems, GIS technologies, systems for supporting management decisions and Internet searching systems.
In 2006 - 2013 - Membership in the Supreme Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission for electronics, measuring equipment, radio engineering and communications (the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia);
Since 2007 – The Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal "Izvestiya Vuzov (Information From Higher Education Institutions). Geodesy and Aerial photography ".
In 2012 -2015 – The Rector in the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography.
Has departmental awards: titles "The Best Inventor in the Field of Geodesy and Cartography" (1999), "Honorary Surveyor" (2002), "Honorary figure of science and technology of the city of Moscow" (2009), "Honored Worker of Geodesy and Cartography of the Russian Federation" (2004); the gold medal "Laureate of the Russian Exhibition Centre" (2002), the badge "The Russian Federation Honored Worker of Science and Technology " (2007), the badge "For the Development of Students’ Research Work" (2009), the sign "50 Years of the First Manned Flight into Space" (2011).
Full member (academician) of the International Science Academy of Eurasia (since 2012), full member (academician) of the Russian Space Academy of named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky (from 2013).
Married, has two sons, lives with his family in the town of Odintsovo, Moscow Region.
