Remote sensing and GIS technology are ideal tools for disaster management in protection of safeguarded facilities in the mountain terrain (construction planning and projecting, monitoring and decision making) since they offer valuable information over large areas at short time intervals. Landslides can cause large-scale socio-economic destruction including loss of life, buildings and communication systems. The technologies provide useful information for mapping and prognostic modeling of landslides that are essential for natural disasters risk and hazard assessment, early warning and loss prevention.
