Abstract:
The authors discuss the current problem of the said territories development through implementing large-scale resource-and-transportation projects of federal importance. At the same time, the cartographic approach plays an important role in solving numerous spatial and strategic tasks. The study purpose was a geographical analysis of such lands and creating their map, using the example of three administrative districts in the Irkutsk oblast, RF, united by common natural, economic and infrastructural factors. Besides, there are two thematic maps of resource areas with updated materials. We conducted an in-depth analysis of the local socio-demographic aspects. It showed that despite the development of the oil and gas industry an unfavorable situation (natural population decline, negative migration balance, predominance of shift workers, shortage of highly qualified personnel, etc.) can be marked there. The combination and spatial overlap of various development factors enables providing a complete view of these areas. In our study, we took into account the administrative-territorial principle, in particular, when addressing issues of territorial interpretation and spatial localization of natural resource and socio-economic data
