Abstract: Cartographic analysis has always played an essential role in zoological studies and in the upcoming era of space imagery and GIS technologies it should become one of the most progressive study method. In this paper we have made an effort to create a winter-habitat map of Caucasian Bison (Bison bonasus montanus) for the part of the territory of Caucasian State Nature Reserve using high-resolution satellite images and ArcGIS analysis tools. We divided the territory into areas of different level of value for the Bison population according to the results of the field studies of the species biology partly held by the nature reserve assistants and partly by us. As the result we can say that the most frequently used highly valuable habitats occupy only 10% of the study area, but another 10% are presented by advanced habitats that have not been used yet by the local population but are in high-demand in other parts of the species range.
