We examine the technogenic hazards and risks of occurrence of emergency situations in the Baikal region. They have been assessed at the level of municipal formations on the basis of normative and specially developed classification. We highlight the guidelines for the study and thematic mapping of technogenic objects and their influence area. The suggested methodology has been used in carrying out an inventory-assessment GIS-based mapping for the Baikal region. The adopted system of conventional signs reflects the specific distribution of hazards and risks across the territory.
