The article is devoted to one of the most actual themes, relief representation in maps. The author's definitions of a method and process of relief representation on maps was given; the historical and technological review of two methods: conditional-perspective and strokes was made. The analysis of classical cartography experience will enable using experience of relief representation in maps under new conditions of computer cartography in the full volume.
