Article is devoted to one of the actual themes – to relief representation on maps. Results of research and testing of requirements to hypsometric scales are presented and their modern interpretation is given. The new classification of hypsometric scales allowing as much as possible to make use of experience of classical and achievement of modern computer cartography is offered.
