In modern geographic science methods of using cartographic models based on the automation of processes of their creation with the use of data and knowledge bases are in great demand. This trend in geography is called GIS mapping. On the basis of extensive soundings (Project INTAS 99-1669), satellite altimetry and global databases of various digital data of detail updated and completely new data on the distribution of bottom depth (bathymetry) of Lake Baikal, suitable for geographical interpretation are obtained.
