Abstract:
The article presents the results of the research of vegetation on the Bolshoy Solovetsky Island – a fragile polar ecosystem which currently experiences a strong anthropogenic pressure and, therefore, requires constant monitoring. A high resolution study was based on field and laboratory methods. The research is of practical and methodological orientation. The objective was to combine different data and techniques in a single research: a large number of images from different satellite systems with different spatial resolution, ground spectrometry results, data obtained from unmanned aerial vehicles, expertise, methods of automated interpretation by different algorithms. A map of 1 : 25 000 scale with an original legend is a result of this work. It shows an evaluated and calculated area of the main vegetation types: forests, wetlands, meadows. The authors emphasize the need for further field studies when mapping vegetation on a large scale, and confirm that only a combination of methods for processing data leads to a reliable result. The article considers the methodological insights that can be recommended for execution of works having similar objectives.
