The paper highlights the authors’ opinion on the current state, needs and prospects of the domestic higher education in domains of Cartography, Geoinformatics, Geodesy and Remote Sensing. The history of foundation and developing the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics in St. Petersburg State University is described briefly. Brief information is given on the Bachelor and Master educational programs supported by the Department. Some features of educational trends provided in the existing curricula are described. Some current problems of educational-scientific process and the priority directions of possible development (from the authors’ point of view) are identified. The conclusion is made on necessity of joint closer work and coordination of educational and scientific activities of the specialists and organizations involved into the domain of higher cartographic, geoinformation, geodetic and remote sensing education.
