Abstract:
The article presents the results of studying the current state of protective forest plantations located in the Rovensky district of the Saratov region. Identification of the planned and current boundaries of protective forest plantations was carried out on the basis of remote sensing data through image interpretation in the geoinformation system QGIS. The interpretaion showed that 1311 projected outlines of protective forest plantations with a total integrity of 68,9 % are located within the area under study. All protective forest plantations were divided into the following categories: Protective State shelterbelts, roadside shelterbelts, field shelterbelts, plantations along small rivers, gully-side and ravine-side shelterbelts, and plantations on sandy soils. The study revealed that soil conditions affect the integrity of protective forest plantations: plantations on sandy soils have the lowest integrity, while plantaions with high integrity are located on dark chestnut soils in the northern part of the district. Forest melioration is required to restore them
