Abstract:
Using an analogy with images of physical fields by means of differential geometry, the example of geosystems of Baikal Siberia, geoinformation modeling and mapping heterogeneous regional fields (geofields) of geographical landscapes as a metalandscape is carried out. In cartographic terms a metalandscape is a synthetic representation of data and knowledge on the territory in the form of landscape-typological maps. The initial data were a landscape-typological map of the south of Eastern Siberia, as well as frequency distributions (occurrences) of geome ranges by elevation gradations. To quantify the metalandscape of the region, the analysis of the geomes’ altitude distribution was made using the equations of reliability theory, based on the probability density function of different geomes existence in a certain altitude tier within a given physical and geographical area is calculated. Based on the calculations, a GIS database was formed. It characterizes each map contour, which corresponds to indicators that quantitatively reflect the metalandscape of the study area. As a result, geoimages of Baikal Siberia’s physico-geographical regions metalandscape were constructed, reflecting the diversity of the geographical environment in the form of the geomic density distribution by height models’ individual parameters variability. Two types of dependence of distribution maxima on modal height were identified for mountainous territories, which indicate an additional impact on the shape of high-altitude mountain formation process niches evolutionary age
