Functions of geoportals as tools for search of spatial data on their metadata and their cartographic visualization are considered. The analysis of the international experience has allowed formulating and realizing requirements to subsystems of metadata management and web-mapping in respect to population geography. The series of analytical and typological maps of demographic and migratory characteristics of the population in Russia on the basis of processing of the statistical data is created. The prototype of geoportal «Demography» on the basis of software ESRI, Inc. (USA) is designed.
