Abstract: The authentic cartographical information expressed in text form and graphic form and today in the digital form, both in the historical past, and in the modern period was and remains the valuable goods. It is doubtless, very favourable to make cartographical production on a basis of already created maps and the cartographical data by their borrowing. Therefore was and there is actual a problem of protection of rights of creators of maps and the cartographical data. In this connection the foreign experience is very
interesting. As the information in the this publication the generalized experience of use of some methods and means of protection of the intellectual property in the area of the cartography are cited, which is described in the report of the doctor of Geographical branch of the Californian University in Santa Barbara (USA) M.T.
