Presented are the results on territorial planning of the Central Ecological Zone of the Baikal Natural Territory (CEZ BNT) designed to ensure sustainable development and to achieve a balance between the protection of the unique ecological system of Lake Baikal and the socioeconomic development of the territory. For coping with the problems related to cartographic support of territorial planning of CEZ BNT, the following have been developed: the schemes of ecological zoning, current uses of the territory and functional zoning identifying the types of utilization goals, economic functions and utilization mode, the restriction map for the «Zones with special utilization conditions of territories» and for the «Territories experiencing the risk of emergence of emergency situations of a natural and technogenic origin», and the package of measures for the protection of territories against the effects of emergency situations of a natural and technogenic origin».
