The authors describe digital maps and methods for their use. It is shown that for practical purposes atlases are often required. It becomes evident that a digital multiscale map corresponds to an informative atlas and exceeds it in accuracy. The experience of remote sensing data application for updating electronic multiscale maps is described. A specific algorithm and the results of its application are given.
