Questions of professional formation of students by means of performance of final qualification works, formation of competences in the cartographic and geo-information direction of the graduate are considered. Features of improvement of information and geo-informational competence, independent updating of professional knowledge and abilities are presented. Priority of the development of information competence of students in the solution of problems of increasing of the information culture level of participants of educational process and realization of the competence-based approach in general is proved.
