In the paper the idea and approaches to the creation of international Big Altay atlas was performed. Preconditions for the development of original cartography work, the main sections of its structure: nature, history, culture, and maps subject were studied. The necessity of the support for developed GIS atlas, creation of the multidimensional GIS project for using the atlas as an element of the decision-making system in the scale of international cross-border cooperation in the Altay region was shown.
